MedMates Awarded ‘Real Jobs RI’ Planning Grant
PROVIDENCE, RI ( July 31, 2015) – MedMates, Inc is pleased to announce it has received a $25,000 grant from the R.I. Division of Labor and Training under their workforce development initiative, ‘Real Jobs Rhode Island’. These funds will support an in-depth needs assessment with industry partners to fully outline an actionable pathway to build an ecosystem-based job creation engine fueled by med-tech entrepreneurs.
Says Hope Hopkins, Co-Director, MedMates, “A med-tech job-creation engine can be conceptualized as a collective of organizations and individuals that collaborate to support the launch and growth
of medical technology companies. This partnership seeks to deliver outcomes that are not achievable by organizations and individuals working on their own. The number and diversity of knowledge jobs and investment attracted to the region are this engine’s key performance indicators.”
Counted amongst this list of critical partnerships in this effort are Ximedica, Aspiera Medical, Blue Cross Blue Shield, BioScience Leaders, Tech Collective and Brown University.
Adds David Goldsmith, MedMates Co-Founder and President, “By clearly defining the needs and potential for collaboration between stakeholders in Rhode Island’s med-tech and health care delivery ecosystem, the essential elements to seed future medical innovations are more likely to take root and flourish. Ultimately we hope to harness this convergence to make emergent company growth in RI a more permanent proposition, as well as nurture collaboration to fuel growth of existing initiatives. Through this process RI can become a more attractive place for funders and startups.”
By working closely with Rhode Island industry leaders MedMates will start to tackle the 3 critical needs med-tech entrepreneurs face: (1) Sources of funding; (2) Networks; and (3) Mentors in a strategic manner.
